A Corgi Beagle – otherwise known as a “Beagi” may present truly like a mixed-breed dog, with the body and short legs of the Welsh Corgi, while maintaining the head of the Beagle. It may have longer, floppier ears like the Beagle, with a longer snout like the Corgi. As with all hybrid dogs, the exact physical appearance can be difficult to predict.

One thing is certain: almost all Beagi’s will have adorable faces and huge brown eyes!

The History of the Corgi Beagle Mix:

As with any designer dog, it can be difficult to trace the exact historical lineage and history of the Corgi Beagle mix – but the designer dog trend did begin sometime in the 1960s, but it is believed that nobody mixed the Corgi Beagle genes until around the 1990s. For more information on this breed, we need to look at where its parent breeds come from!

Corgi History

Corgi History

The Pembroke Welsh Corgi was first brought over to Wales by Flemish weavers, who arrived from what is now modern-day Belgium around 1107 AD. They were brought over as companion dogs, however, they were later used as cattle herding dogs. When their herding days were over, Corgis became faithful companion pets and began to accrue immense popularity in Britain, where they became famous as the animals of royalty, including the favourite dogs of the late Queen Elizabeth II.

How Popular Are Corgis in the United States?

In the United States, Corgis remain very popular and have done for several years – ranking routinely inside the top 20 dogs in the United States, according to statistics gathered by the American Kennel Club. Last year, they ranked the 11th most popular dog in the country.

How Did Corgis Come About?

Corgis were first brought over to the UK by Flemish weavers around 1107 AD, from what is now modern-day Belgium. They started as companion dogs for the Flemish, but were soon put to work as cattle-herding dogs – as they can reach speeds of up to 25 MPH – and are deceptively intimidating! From this history as working dogs, they gained royal favour and began to appear in America as companion dogs for new immigrants and were recognized by the American Kennel Club in 1934.

When Did We First Cross-Breed Corgis?

The crossbreeding history of the Pembroke Welsh Corgi is a little spotty, but some experts believe that the Welsh Corgi was created by crossing a Swedish Vallhund with native Welsh dogs. This mixture explains the Corgis’ hunting capabilities as well as its size and slender body shape.

Beagle History

Beagle History

The Beagle also has roots in Wales and England, with roots dating back to the 16th century. Beagles were originally used as rabbit-hunting dogs by the English nobility, who hunted rabbits with packs of eight or ten Beagles. This particular breed of Beagle would have been known as a North Country Beagle and is one of three breeds (the other two being the Talbot Hound and the Southern Hound) that created the modern Beagle.

Beagles are still used in parts of the UK by many farmers as small-game hunting companions. They also find popularity in the United States among the same types of hunters. When not hunting dogs, they make great companion pets.
